In the last two weekends of November we are open for you to come and select your tree and tag it, for collection closer to Christmas Day. Then our farm is open every day from 1st December for collection. If you need a tree for an early christmas or special occasion and want it cut in the last two weekends of November, we are also able to accomodate this.
BUYING YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE:
- Come up to our farm at and look around and choose your tree. It’s always a great idea to choose your tree while it is still in the ground and then collect it when you are ready for it. A freshly cut tree will always last longer than one that has been cut and shipped a distance. Take your time and enjoy the fresh air and visit our animals who are always keen for company!
- We have a variety of sizes and shapes for all tastes, a healthy tree will have shining, bright green needles that are flexible and stay on the tree to the touch.
- We have pinus radiata trees available, which are the ones you’d be used to with the traditional, lovely pine-y smell. In addition to the pinus radiata we are growing other species such as firs and spruces but they take a little longer to grow so won’t be ready for a couple of years, but keep an eye out for those in the future when you are making the decision about your choice of tree.
- We’ll then ensure it’s yours by tagging it for you until you are ready to take it home.
- When you are ready to collect it give us a call or pop up and we’ll cut it and wrap it in netting for you ready to take home.
HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR TREE – “TREAT IT LIKE A ROSE”:
- Once your tree is home we recommend trimming another centimetre from the bottom to ensure a fresh cut goes into the water. It is recommended that you cut it straight, not at an angle.
- Mount your tree as soon as possible after the fresh cut, no longer than 2 hours. We sell Christmas Tree Stands which will assist with keeping the tree stable and allow space for it to be watered. These are $60
- Make sure the tree is straight, stand back and check that it is standing straight before you start decorating.
- Once you have your tree erected, decorated and looking and smelling fabulous, you will need to ensure the water level stays topped up. For the first few hours of settling in it will need plenty to drink. After the first day, it will require about 2 litres per day.
- All fresh trees will lose needles, a well-watered tree will lose fewer, but keep a dustpan and brush handy to sweep the fallen needles up every day or two.
- Once Christmas is over, you will need to dispose of your tree. Dispose of it as you would garden waste. You are welcome to bring it back to the farm in January and drop it over our gate. We will mulch it and feed it back to the soil.
